The Cuab Side of the Moon

It’s pretty much been a year since I last wrote an entry, and seeing as making new blogs is the current trend, I’m starting over fresh, retiring spills.diaryland.com. So, what up.

On Saturday I got one of the biggest surprises of my life. It was my 25th birthday, and I thought I was going to J. Gilberts for the customary birthday dinner with the parents. Amy said she wanted to drive, and I thought nothing of it. As we’re on our way to the restaurant, I get a call from Dan saying he had helped one of his neighbors set up something at the complex’s club house, and she treated him to a few drinks and that he was to drunk to drive and needed to be picked up. His drunk speak was so convincing it actually pissed me off rather than raising any suspicion. As we’re pulling into Hale Farms I feel my phone vibrate. There was a voice mail from Nate Burke. He called to wish me a happy birthday and said he talked to Amy was sorry he couldn’t make it to my party. When I first heard it I assumed Amy had told him about going to Hartford after dinner, and was calling that my “party”. Amy recovered pretty well by saying he probably meant Hartford and swore she didn’t call him, and said she doesn’t even have his number. I believed her, and just assumed that Nate lied to me, which prompted me to ask, “Why would Nate lie to me?”

When we get to the club house it hits me that they’re throwing me a surprise party. Amy then said she was gonna go in with me, and thats when I knew. I approached the door and saw Michael Clapis walking out of some room, then it was certain, BUT nothing could have prepared me for what I saw inside. I opened the door to Dan rubbing his crotch in the foreground and my ENTIRE family and a significantly enormous number of my friends in the background yelling surprise. Let me tell you this, often times when you walk into a room not really expecting there to be a lot of people, you deal with it without a passing thought or care, because you see a sea of people of no consequence to you and they just melt with the background, but when there are 60 some odd faces, all of which you recognize and have very close association and feeling towards, plays a nutroll on your mind. It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, and certainly was ever given. My parents and Amy are truly the most amazing people I know for pulling something like that off, and how almost all of my friends and my entire family were there to surprise ME on my biggest birthday to date. It was beyond amazing. I truly had never felt more significant in all of my life, not by a long shot. I was pretty much stunned the entire night. I wish I had given a speech, I just had no idea what to say, so I said nothing. I apologize to any and all that thought my request for a second singing of the birthday song was boarish and obnoxious, but christ allou I had the power and I wielded it. It was such a great night, one for the bulletin board.

The biggest highlight besides the surprise and enormity of the night, was Dan’s speech to me. It was pretty much a Don Rickles act, roasting the room before he got to me. It was all punctuated by his closing statement. Watch the entire speech BELOW:

Pour House afterwards was really fun, and pretty much an EHHS reunion. I was just glad Amy came out to Hartford. It seriously was the best birthday I have ever had, all my friends and family are amazing, thank you all for being there, and Amy and my parents need all the props in the universe for pulling off the heist of the century. Here’s to the twenty fifth year. And here’s to Uncle Bill and his genius gift.
