Watched some RetroJunk and fell upon some hardcore nostalgia. Watching and HEARING all those old Nickelodeon bumpers makes it warm. The ones with the dogs was always, ALWAYS my favorite one of the lot. Sip on this mess.

There Was No New York

Missed out on Letterman today due to internal conflicts of interest out of the hands of both parties involved. As much as I would have loved to see Dave for the second time in my life, I feel as though it wasn’t yet time again. That time will come again, and when it does, the world shall accept us for who we are.

Since when did Vinnie  become such an eloquent critic? I do enjoy his movie reviews, even if they do give me a little more than I care to hear prior to seeing the movies myself. I gotta see There Will Be Blood and No Country ASAP, not necessarily in that order. I gotta do my homework… I gotta go to the gym… I gotta get going with EBC… I need a new schedule.

Rodney Cloverfield

Just saw Cloverfield, and I liked it. I liked it a lot actually. I think it was shot very convincingly. I wasn’t too impressed by the end, and because of that I liked it even more. They really genuinely made it seem as though it was an amateur film documenting a crazy event. Obviously it’s ridiculous that anyone would care to continue recording in those circumstances, but I think it was a cool way to do the movie. It made the otherwise fake looking monster seem somewhat real. I recommend this movie to anyone that hasn’t seen it. I actually wanna see it again in theaters. Just not at Buckland, which looks COMPLETELY different now. They charged me $10.50 for a ticket. At Crowne, using my student ID I can get into a movie (non-matinee) for $8. Showcase doesn’t even take student IDs. Bogus.

Me and Amy will be in New York City on Monday to see Letterman.  I believe the guests are Jessica Alba and The W(h)igs. This will be my second time, I just hope this time I’m not stuck behind a pole on the balcony. At least I got some Pop-Eye’s green beans. Look for us!

Help Me Ink

I want new ink. Badly. I thought I was done, but I guess I’ll want more forever. I got a couple ideas of what I want, and I wanna get two. Both are gonna be homages to my craft and my life. Friends and art. My first idea is simple. My favorite font, at the current moment, and will most likely be forever, is Helvetica. It’s the simplest, cleanest font, and is a favorite among many designers. They even made a movie about it. The word I want is robot clean, all in lower case. IS THAT CRAZY? It’s not so much an homage to the band, more of what the band stands for, and the SPQR mentality it has. I just have no idea where I could put it. Any suggestions? The other idea I have is a thin band around my upper left forearm. I have a couple of ideas. One is a word consisting of woodblock, initial typefaces making up a saying, only I have no idea what saying I would get. The other idea is crazier. I would have a series of 10 or 15 squares, and in each square there would be a representation of some of my friends. What that would be, I really don’t know. Like I want to ask a select few to design something in a square that represents themselves, something simple, and I’d get that tattooed on me. I had this idea because my favorite tattoo is my 138 on my wrist, pretty much because of what it means. I just think it’s a cool thing. Again, it’s just something I think about, I have no idea if I’d really go through with that, or if anyone would even care to design something like that. I just want another tattoo that I don’t regret. If anyone has any recommendations or thoughts about that COMMENT ME.

It’s pretty much been a year since I last wrote an entry, and seeing as making new blogs is the current trend, I’m starting over fresh, retiring spills.diaryland.com. So, what up.

On Saturday I got one of the biggest surprises of my life. It was my 25th birthday, and I thought I was going to J. Gilberts for the customary birthday dinner with the parents. Amy said she wanted to drive, and I thought nothing of it. As we’re on our way to the restaurant, I get a call from Dan saying he had helped one of his neighbors set up something at the complex’s club house, and she treated him to a few drinks and that he was to drunk to drive and needed to be picked up. His drunk speak was so convincing it actually pissed me off rather than raising any suspicion. As we’re pulling into Hale Farms I feel my phone vibrate. There was a voice mail from Nate Burke. He called to wish me a happy birthday and said he talked to Amy was sorry he couldn’t make it to my party. When I first heard it I assumed Amy had told him about going to Hartford after dinner, and was calling that my “party”. Amy recovered pretty well by saying he probably meant Hartford and swore she didn’t call him, and said she doesn’t even have his number. I believed her, and just assumed that Nate lied to me, which prompted me to ask, “Why would Nate lie to me?”

When we get to the club house it hits me that they’re throwing me a surprise party. Amy then said she was gonna go in with me, and thats when I knew. I approached the door and saw Michael Clapis walking out of some room, then it was certain, BUT nothing could have prepared me for what I saw inside. I opened the door to Dan rubbing his crotch in the foreground and my ENTIRE family and a significantly enormous number of my friends in the background yelling surprise. Let me tell you this, often times when you walk into a room not really expecting there to be a lot of people, you deal with it without a passing thought or care, because you see a sea of people of no consequence to you and they just melt with the background, but when there are 60 some odd faces, all of which you recognize and have very close association and feeling towards, plays a nutroll on your mind. It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, and certainly was ever given. My parents and Amy are truly the most amazing people I know for pulling something like that off, and how almost all of my friends and my entire family were there to surprise ME on my biggest birthday to date. It was beyond amazing. I truly had never felt more significant in all of my life, not by a long shot. I was pretty much stunned the entire night. I wish I had given a speech, I just had no idea what to say, so I said nothing. I apologize to any and all that thought my request for a second singing of the birthday song was boarish and obnoxious, but christ allou I had the power and I wielded it. It was such a great night, one for the bulletin board.

The biggest highlight besides the surprise and enormity of the night, was Dan’s speech to me. It was pretty much a Don Rickles act, roasting the room before he got to me. It was all punctuated by his closing statement. Watch the entire speech BELOW:

Pour House afterwards was really fun, and pretty much an EHHS reunion. I was just glad Amy came out to Hartford. It seriously was the best birthday I have ever had, all my friends and family are amazing, thank you all for being there, and Amy and my parents need all the props in the universe for pulling off the heist of the century. Here’s to the twenty fifth year. And here’s to Uncle Bill and his genius gift.
